Kezia Tomsett is a film composer, composer’s assistant and writer. Kezia enjoys creating sweeping soundscapes, combining the acoustic and electro-acoustic into a cinematic experience, heightened by her use of her own voice in rich ethereal textures and thematic melodies. She works with both orchestral and electronic music, drawing from her training in classical music theory and practise.
She began her career during her BA Music Hons. degree (Class 1, graduating July, 2019) at the University of Leeds where she worked with WMP Studios, composing for companies such as Covergirl, Maille Mustard and Betty’s. She continues to freelance, composing and producing for short films and commercials.
2020 began with her co-curating the 10th Brudenell Piano Sessions, opening with her original song ‘Guiding Light’ from her debut EP ‘Glass Eyes’ (released April, 2020), a fusion of cinematic electronica, all self-composed and produced. ‘Guiding Light’ reflects people lost in the business of everyday life and missing the beauty in it. Alexandra Hamilton-Ayres was inspired to rework this track, following the release of her new-classical song ‘Reawaken (feat. Kezia Tomsett)’ which they previously performed together at Daylight Music, Union Chapel.
During her degree, Kezia achieved a first in her dissertation exploring the structural barriers facing women in film music, interviewing eight women composers. She has since continued her research as a member of the Alliance for Women Film Composers, speaking at events such as the Hidden Figures Conference 2020 (Royal Holloway) and writing for The White Room Magazine.
Kezia is content editor and community manager for the UK’s Alliance for Women Film Composers and a researcher in the field of women in film.
